RoMa Craft Intemperance Volstead VO 1920 Blind Pig | Cigar Reviews by the Katman

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Hybrid
Binder: Mexican San Andrés
Filler: Dominican, Nicaraguan
Size: 4.5 x 60
Strength: Medium
Price: $8.25

My cigars have had 3-1/2 months of naked humidor time.

BACKGROUND:
Regular production.
From Atlantic Cigar:
“Armed with a balanced blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco, Intemperance Volstead VO 1920 is finished with an Ecuadorian Sumatra hybrid wrapper – a varietal sometimes referred to as Cameroon grown in Ecuador. Blender Skip Martin describes the blend as “the lighter side” of RoMa Craft cigars. Even still, Intemperance Volstead VO 1920 weighs in as a medium-bodied blend with notes of cedar, spice, and hints of cocoa and cashews on the finish.”

THE WHOLE MEGILLAH (Short stack):
The cigar reeks of vanilla and honey.

The cigar has some weight and the draw is surprisingly open. No need for my PerfecDraw on this occasion.

First puffs send signals of creaminess, honey, salted cashews, black pepper, and espresso.

This blend required every moment of the over 3 months of naked humi time I allowed it. Upfront upon receipt, the cigars tasted like doo doo. Even a couple months in, I tasted nothing of what the cigar delivers this day.

A dried fruit sweetness gives the cigar a lovely balance. Raisins and dates.
A salty pretzel logic hits with all 4 cylinders.

Strength is mild. But oh so good. Nicely done Mr. Martin. This ain’t your daddy’s Roma Craft. In fact, I’ve found myself mostly bored by this brand as of late. My palate has moved on. I’m back.

Extreme smoke output. See video.

Flavors are flying. I admit that I was skeptical as I smoked most of the way through the fiver I purchased months ago. It is an opportunity for reviewers to lend a hand. Maybe why heaven invented us. I would have waited if any reviewer had said to do so.

Very creamy. Flavor bomb in training. Only 10 minutes in. High hopes.
Spicy cinnamon pairs with the black pepper.

This is turning into a solid go-to cigar. These days, an $8 stick is rightfully in that category. With promo codes, it is reduced to a $7 stick.

The burn is slow. The char line is sharp.

Milk chocolate plotzes at the ¾” burned mark. 17 minutes.

Strength morphs to medium. Very smooth and undemanding. Just ride it home. The cigar is easy going exactly like the blues I am listening to.

I’m pretty sure that the female 50 something x-ray tech, who put me into the old man porn position yesterday, knew exactly what she was doing.

The flavors I mentioned are in play. No diminishing returns. Intensified instead. The creaminess leads the pack and allows the other interesting notes to ride piggyback.

Chocolate, espresso, cashews, caramel, cinnamon, honey butter, salty pretzel, green tea, vanilla, and smoky cedar. This is a very good cigar.

I believe that the small number of reviews for this cigar is due to it having been too soon since its June release. The blend, simply, has not been ready. They should be popping up soon. I can’t imagine you will read a negative review of the Intemperance Volstead VO 1920. Makes me happy that this is a regular production blend. Just shows you that good cigars can come from interesting and available leaves.

This is a very slow roll. 1-1/2” in and 30 minutes. Using my slide rule, the extrapolation means the experience will last one hour and 30 minutes. $8.00. Great taste and cheap.

I will scoot ahead.

Construction is excellent. The burn line sparks applause.

The halfway point. 45 minutes. Flavors excel. Nothing missing. A chocolate paradise.

1-1/2” to go. Strength is medium/full. I expected that the blend would remain an easy going medium, but it had other ideas.
