My cigars received 3 months of naked humidor time.
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
It is Stick My Hand into Humidor and Review It Monday.
My PerfecDraw is at the track. It refuses to seek help for its gambling addiction. I trade it in on a clean and sober PD.
The cigar begins with a clean jerk. Just starting here. Caffeine has not kicked in.
Notes of black pepper, soy sauce, black coffee, raisin, and dark chocolate. Alrighty then.
Nothing sweet. I need some type of balance. Never said I was impartial. No reviewer is.
As soon as I finished typing the last sentence, a lithe morsel of sweetness appears in mostly a generic fashion but with hints of cinnamon graham cracker and lemonade.
Listening to Tower of Power 50 Years of Funk & Soul Live at the Fox Theater. This can drive rhythm section listeners crazy with desire.
The blend is not without a smile and good intentions. But…this early in its fiery suicide, just an ordinary cigar. Blind taste testing would bring up any number of coincidental good blenders. Sumatra, Nicaraguan, and Mexican ain’t exactly going for the gold in offbeat ingredients.
You can’t help but notice all the celebrity endorsements for legalized gambling apps while watching football this season. These guys are full ahead whores of the highest order. I’ve seen friends fall by the wayside due to out of control gambling. They eventually righted things but not before hitting bottom. And you’ve got assholes like Kevin Hart using his goodfella affability to say go ahead…bet and lose…it’s cool, baby.
I’m 1-1/2” in and the cigar is boring. The cigar received some favorable reviews. I’m happy that there are better palates than mine out there reporting the truth. I really don’t detect a decent blender’s intent.
The balance is 90% savory and 10% sweet. If there was a modicum of richness or complexity, this would be just fine. Without those two fortifying ingredients, this is a $6 stick without redemption. Rojas has put out some decent blends. I gander at SBC’s lineup and most are sold out which means they are popular. So why the hell am I giving this popular cigar a meh review…dunno.
Flavors are so muted that they barely register. This is my third stick. Each underwhelmed me.
Zero complexity. Tinkerbell is dying.
Further notes are hanging by their fingernails: Frosted Flakes, almonds, malt, herbals, and ginger. This implies that the cigar is getting better.
Ever notice in fast food commercials that everyone is skinny.
A top 25 countdown seems pretty silly. It treats smokers as if we are children. Who gives a shit about tension and mystery. Frustrates the fuck out of me every year.
“The Tenth Man Rule suggests that, if nine people in a group of ten agree on an issue, the tenth member must take a contrarian viewpoint and assume the other nine are wrong.” This sometimes applies to cigar reviewing. As well as warding off the threat of Zekes in your vicinity.
I want this cigar to improve. It is certainly not a bad cigar. I just don’t see any resemblance to the positive ratings it has seen. Am I smoking a different cigar. Does letting it rest for a year make it better. Only one review had the guts to report how long they allowed it to humidor rest. Without this vital information, there is no way to compare notes.
You do know that your testicles have a larynx and a voice box…I’ve been working on decoding the language since I was 14. So far, all I can discern is “Stop touching me.”
The second half starts out with an enhanced approach. But I feel like I’m chasing my tail. After all, this is only a $10 cigar…not a $20+ stick. The $10 stick is now the new $6. Six months from now, we will see this price point as a cheap offering. Greed has begun.
I want something really sweet now. The off-kilter balance does not work. Not a lick of richness. This is killing the experience. So, I listen to La Grange to prop me up.
I realize that the industry blogs have actual budgets for buying cigars to review. They can write it off. Guys like me cannot. The accelerated prices coming this year are going to wipe out a lot of good reviewers.
Creaminess finally lands giving the cigar some weight. Not much, but anything at this point helps.
A scoche of honey enters. My hippocampus grabs it.
The second half is in recovery mode…trying to make up for a listless first half. Time will not change this arrangement. The magic that shows up in second half blends is not a conscious choice by the blender. It is a lucky coincidence.
I liked the variety of the Tacos blends. If you go for a Rojas cigar, those three amalgamates are the ones to snag. Their price conscious attributes make them winners.
The Unfinished Business was a swing and a miss. It’s mostly herbaceous profile wanted to succeed. I give it props for that. But then you should read the other reviewers’ opinions on this blend. They could be absolutely right, and I could be absolutely wrong. Read as many opinions as possible before you pull the trigger on any cigar. You’ll always have a leg up to smokers that blindly purchase cigars.
