BACKGROUND:
From Luxury Cigar Club:
“Sagrado is a little known boutique cigar company that takes pride in their tobacco from farm, to completed product. Sagrado cigars are hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic each leaf of tobacco is aged before being rolled. They are crafted in traditional Cuban fashion using the entubado style of bunching. Lilith is a 5×43 petite corona that is perfect for your cup of coffee. Using an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Dominican Olor binder, and all Dominican fillers, you will find Lilith to be perfectly medium-bodied, with ample tasting notes of black pepper, cinnamon and floral notes.”

THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
The wrapper provides a spicy aroma containing pleasant notes of cinnamon, vanilla, floral, sassafras, nutmeg, smoky oak, and peanut shells.

The draw is excellent and mimics the aromas emanating from the aged wrapper.

Spicy peppers and hot cinnamon are the initial impression finding a slight burn to my lips. Mesquite is a welcome adjunct to a zesty birth. Flavors domino with notes of creaminess, malt, peanut shells, and milk chocolate.

I’m impressed with the level of richness that many blends don’t find until the second half or until its sweet spot kicks in. An upward slope of complexity intrigues my palate. I look forward to what’s next.

The professionalism of the rollers is clearly evident as the cigar swells as it heats up. The burn is slow and its char line sharp.

The Dominican leaves are always a good choice by experienced blenders. Getting them to perform is a massive undertaking not to be taken lightly. The wrapper provides the right amount of slickness and just a hint of sweetness.

Initial blends from a fledgling cigar manufacturer are tricky and can be deadly to the company if we smokers don’t approve…as we stick our noses into the air and decide whether to try another. Segrado has three blends that can be purchased from Luxury Cigar Club: The Lilith as reviewed today, the Anatoly Sumatra ($18) and the Carismatico Maduro ($15). I’m intrigued as my palate is experiencing a lovely reaction to the Lilith. The cigar price is just shy of $13 and for those that love smaller cigars, seems to be an excellent choice to add to the ‘experiment’ list. We do love our go-to’s but a surprise is certainly relished when we least expect it.

1-1/2” passes in 20 minutes. An hour for a petite corona is perfect.

The terrior is rich from the Dominican soil, climate, and sunlight. It feels like a warm and sunny day in Puerto Plata.

The environmental factors that affect a crop’s phenotype are present and accounted for.

As I enter the second half of the cigar, I begin to wonder what Sagrado’s other blends might offer. Segrado Cigars has a total offering of ten blends.

The anticipated sweet spot sees the beatified flavors bloat with richness and density. I slow the process to a crawl. The cigar asks for my appreciation. I respond with a nod and a wink. The tiny tobacco tube is a thing to be savored.

My first two passes along the way saw hints of today’s flavors…but not the complex features in play. Three months is worth the wait. And if I choose to procure more of the Lilith, I will wait patiently.

It is hard not to think of Lilith, and the actress who played her, in the series ‘Frasier.’ I watched ‘Julia’ and enjoyed Bebe Neuwirth’s performance. Except for the names, the series was mostly inaccurate when it came to the actual story of the famed cook.

The remaining 1-1/2” finds rich flavors of creaminess, malt, lemon zest, peanuts, cinnamon, black pepper, milk chocolate, baking spices, and vanilla. A cogent representation of the leaf stats. No surprises. But for an $11 cigar (after promo code), a solid entry for Sagrado Cigars.

What carries this diminutive cigar is its level of complexity. A vibrant richness keeps my palate and my brain standing at attention throughout. A very nice experience…especially for a morning cigar with a good cup of coffee. The strength remains at medium and never varies. A difficult task for any blender. A runaway blend is always a disappointment.

Now the question is how does Sagrado do with its stronger Carismatico Maduro. I am lured by the sirens of something new.

The Lilith is a splendid outing for the fledgling Sagrado Cigars. You can read the company’s profile by clicking here.
