From Luxury Cigar Club:
“Casa de Sueno translates to House of Dreams in Spanish. The brand may be new, their first cigar was released in 2019, however the family has been growing tobacco in the Dominican Republic for six generations. To celebrate their 5th anniversary, they have created The 5th, a 5.5×58 robusto gordo prensado. Finished with a pigtail and a gorgeous band fit for their first anniversary release. The 5th is filled with Dominican Piloto Cubano and undisclosed leaves, bound in a Dominican San Vincente binder, then covered in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf.”
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
You can’t pick your family, but you can pick a PerfecDraw. Rod owes me 16¢. And despite this being a big cigar, the punch is in the details as the draw is on the money. My PD tool lay dormant. Lazy Bastardo.
Unusual aromas from the wrapper: sweet dung, rich black cherries, smoked baby deer, vanilla ice, 90% cacao, and spicy red pepper. Very nice.
Normally, I use a single torch flame. This gargantuan bugger needs the love of a Lotus foursome attack.
Sweet start. Cherries and cream. In only seconds I sense the power to come…possible loss of consciousness on the menu for an ala carte morning smoke. I need to pace myself. Wussification has taken over in my old age.
Don’t you love a perfectly balanced Sweet v. Savory blend. Me too. So far…
I also love crisp burns. Done.
The strength is very close to propagating medium/full early on. I repeat myself under stress, I repeat myself…
On the overnight ferry from Dover England to The Hook of Holland, we enjoyed the company of the senior crew for Led Zeppelin. They didn’t fuck around when it came to becoming very drunk at the dinner table. It was ‘Give me the fooking peas. Give me the fooking mash. Give me the fooking salt.’ You get the idea. They taught me how to avoid sea sickness on the treacherous English Channel. Get thoroughly soused…and roll with the punches as the high waves bounce you around in your rack. Worked as prescribed.
Casa de Sueños’ blends of their Angelito, Fantasia, and El Sonador have gotten big thumbs up across the board. Couldn’t find anyone checking in on this blend. It’s early. Or…
The cigar signals richness but also provides a heads up that 3 months personal humidor time is early.
My buddy Chris was a member of Strawberry Alarm Clock. He played bass for the 60’s psychedelic band. I asked him why in the early days of television appearances they always showed two guys playing bass. Apparently, the original guy wasn’t very good, but the band didn’t have the heart to fire him. Hence, two bassists. Rare in show biz.
The body of the cigar is very mild…meanwhile, the strength is ramping up. This blend reminds me of Southern Draw’s Manzanita. Very similar leaf stats. The Manz isn’t great in its early stages but flowers beautifully with extended aging. The second half will lay this blend bare.
When musicians are listening to playback in the studio…they’re not swooning over their brilliant performance, they are listening for clams. Nothing plagues an artist more than hearing an off kilter note. Sleep is lost. Suicide is pondered. Excuses are at the ready.
Second half begins and citrus evolves. If a cigar isn’t ready at 3 months, I’m disappointed. I’m forced to look at the Blender’s Intent. This cigar doesn’t return the stare. Richness and complexity don’t take off. Laying there like a flounder. There are drops of insecurity in this blend. It wants to do better…but it doesn’t have the character to do so. Something is wrong. I jumped on this because of the extreme limited availability of cigars. I had higher hopes.
I’m quickly losing interest in furthering this review. Flavor points are minimal. Complexity is near zero. Nuances and subtleties do not exist. No flourish in the second half. Nothing to give me hope. I fucked up. My bad.
The Southern Draw Manzanita is better and half the price, or less. Go for the SD.
Meanwhile, the Casa de Sueños Angelito, Fantasia, and El Sonador get rave reviews. The Casa de Sueños webpage shows the above cigars but omits this blend. Should have been a sign.
