I joined the Atlantic Cigar VIP Club and bought the Room 101 Darumas with a nice discount. I wish I knew about this years ago, or whenever they instigated the club. Enormous savings for pennies. Plus you get specials that the public doesn’t see. Like the ability to purchase the brand new Liga UF-13’s and Feral Pigs. So few are given out to stores that they had to limit the purchase to two each. Which is fine since I’ve never smoked one because they are so damn hard to find. I intend to let them sleep a long time. I don’t see reviews coming any time soon.
Know what I like about Matt Booth and Room 101? Glad you asked.
He is very close to becoming a Pete Johnson cottage industry. But without the hype and mystique. He seems down to earth. And doesn’t wrap his cigars is such mystery that the PR machine is in full blown over time. Allowing the Tatuaje cigars to be overpriced.
Matt keeps his cigars priced at a point that allows a greater number of smokers to enjoy his products. And his products are damn fine.
20,000 cigars were produced in each of the five sizes.
I bought 10 sticks because the members of my cigar group on Face Book all urged me to try them…and then review them.
Now, due to the size of this cigar, it will be a short review.
Construction is solid. There is a dark, deep oiliness. Some tooth. Just a few veins.
I sniff and detect cedar and leather.
I do a V cut on my big stainless steel 4 hole cutter. I get a perfect cut every time. And I light up.
I get some nice red pepper on the tongue. And fully expect an exotic experience due to the exotic blend. I’ve let these rest in my humidor for 3 weeks. As most Room 101 cigars, it should be ready to smoke….I know…further aging will only increase its character.
The flavor profile starts out very earthy. And then the spiciness makes my eyes water and my nose run. I dig this already. I won’t do this in thirds but in inches. At 4”, it goes by in a blink.
There are pronounced cedar and leather flavors. The char line is good, but not perfect. I use my Zippo with the butane insert and a low flame for small cigars in order to achieve the reviewer’s dream of a perfect char line. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
The photos show a $50 Room 101 scissors cutter that I got free from buying a box of the San Andres blend. A stunning tool for larger cigars.
The char line is perfect now. And a large amount of buttery smooth creaminess appears at the ¾” point. The cigar is a classic medium.
Flavors begin to kick in. A wonderful nuttiness appears. Sort of a sweet cashew. Or maybe hazelnut. I’m not very good at identifying nuts. Although, I know where mine are at all times.
I’m at the 1-1/2” point and I love this cigar. So much so, that I stop writing and go to Atlantic Cigar and buy a box of the Monstros 5 x 60. A little more cigar than the Roxxo.
The body begins to accelerate towards full. Smoke spews forth. The char line continues to be dead nuts.
The flavors see a complexity. There is a bit of cocoa and espresso. Just laying back. The pepper has tamped back a bit. I can see through the tears in my eyes now.
The greatest component to this cigar is the deep, rich earthiness. The creaminess is kicking ass now. I am beginning to get a little bit of a nicotine buzz as I approach the halfway point. The body moves quickly.
This is the absolute perfect running around errand cigar. No waste, no fuss.
A bit of citrus appears. A lemony zest. Gives it a nice tartness as an offset to the creaminess.
I intend to nub this stick. Unless the nicotine gets to me. But I had dinner prior to smoking this cigar so that shouldn’t happen.
The last inch is super. A damn fine cigar. Now I am really glad I bought the box of Monstros. It leaves me free to smoke the rest of my Roxxos without hoarding them.
No new flavors show up. That’s cool. What the cigar delivers is plenty. I just wanted more.

Great review Phil! I need to try it in the Robusto size, I had the big guy 5×60 and wasn’t too happy with it, but overall I am not a fan of the big ring gauge smokes.
