This is a cigar that my buddy Jason at BCP sent me as a gift. No reviewer has come near this cigar which worries me about its voracity as a worthwhile stick.

But I will do my best to give an honest opinion. Jason is a straight shooter and knows exactly the type of cigar I like. And he would not shove a house brand down my throat unless it was a good cigar. I trust the young man. This is what the BCP web site says about the cigar:
“Crafted exclusively for BestCigarPrices by Altadis U.S.A., makers of Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and H.Upmann cigars, Mythos is a medium-bodied blend of premium Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos beneath an Ecuadorian Cubano wrapper. Classically rich in flavor with hints of spice and a subtle sweetness, Mythos offers a bold and eye-opening smoke to enjoy whether you’re pondering life’s great mysteries, or just checking out last night’s football scores. Invigorate your palate and experience the magic of the leaf with the smooth and satisfying flavor of Mythos.”

The cigar is a bit rustic but not bad construction. It has a light brown wrapper with a lot of big veins and an expertly applied cap. It shines from oils. And it feels pretty smooth but with a bit of tooth here and there.

I clip the cap and find aromas of mild cocoa, star anise, clove, strong spice, cinnamon, baking spices, leather, and wood.
Time to light up.

I sneeze and the lit cigar in my mouth flies on to the key board. What a schmuck.

OK. The first puffs are very spicy. The draw is excellent. I retrohale and the red pepper makes me sneeze three times in quick succession. Wow. It has a Garcia-type blast of pepper at the start.

The other flavors at hand are mild cocoa, leather, a mild citrus, and coffee. The cigar is definitely a premium cigar by the taste of the tobacco. It is well crafted and very earthy. Jason got me again. The nail right on the head. I can tell I am going to like this cigar. I’ve reviewed 5 other house blends for Jason and every single one was a winner. Clearly, they are more careful who they work with than other unnamed online stores, and get deeply involved with the blending before they say, “Yes.”

The cap is not so impressive as it begins to wrinkle and come near to shredding after only 1” of smoking. But the char line is impressive.
I’ve had this cigar in my humidor for over a month. So far, everything Jason has sent me, a month has been right on the money.

More flavors to report….Creaminess, cinnamon, molasses, and buttered toast….and I cannot believe this is a $4 cigar. I’m beginning to think that outside the Alec Bradley Insignia, this is my new fave BCP house brand. It wreaks quality. No kiddin folks.

Someone loved this stick…fed him honey and nightshade, kept him warm….er…I mean blending this cigar.

The second third begins and the flavors explode into flavor bomb status. I just knew it. The circle of the flavor profile is full of goodies: Red pepper, creaminess, cocoa, coffee, earthy, black licorice, cinnamon, honey, molasses, and leather. Not bad for an inexpensive nobody cigar.

Now I know that everyone is a skeptic when it comes to conflict of issues when given a cigar to review. I can’t count how many cigars I’ve been given and wrote the truth. There have been a few times I’ve been a whore and instead of publishing a bad review, I just didn’t publish it. Two reasons: First, it is not fair to people who send me cigars for review, and second, companies are twitchy when you write a negative review. Jack Torano finally put me on his reviewer’s list. He sent me three different cigars to review. I know, I know, last of the big time spenders. Most outfits send you 3-5 cigars to try. Anyway, two were great cigars and the other; not so much. Well, Jack didn’t like that so I was taken off his reviewer’s list; even though I’ve written a dozen wonderful reviews about Torano products. All it took was one so-so review and I’m outta here.

The cocoa rises above the creaminess. Everything else is the same at the halfway point. I definitely plan to buy some of these. You just can’t go wrong. This cigar is every bit as good as any $6-$7 good name brand cigar.

The burn line needs a minor touch up. The sun is shining and it brings out all the imperfections in the wrapper. It is wrinkly just below the cigar band. And lots of veins show. But it doesn’t affect the flavor profile.

The last third begins with a bang. The balance is great. The finish is long. Lip smacking long. The cocoa and creaminess are just screaming for attention.

When I get my Social Security check on the 3rd, the first thing I plan to do is buy a box of these cigars. $84 for a box of 20. A terrific deal.
I still have 2-1/2” to go and I will relish every bit of it.

The cigar isn’t terribly complex but if you want deep complexity, you need to spend a few bucks more. But it doesn’t matter; not with all these flavors assaulting my palate.

You ever notice how many online stores and reviewers misspell the word “palate?” They usually spell it pallete or pallet. Spell check won’t help. But for chrissakes, if you’re taking this seriously, get a friggin dictionary.

The wrapper, near the foot, begins to unravel a bit. It’s the damn cold here in Wisconsin. It has been subzero degrees for so long that it just punishes the shit out of my cigars. Today will be a balmy 38. It actually feels warm. Growing up in So Cal, 60 degrees seemed cold to everyone.
The flavor profile has been canonized. It will go out in style. No harshness. Not hot. And smooth. The earthiness, though, has moved a few notches up in line.

This is an outstanding cigar for the money. Better than any cigar in this price range I’ve reviewed. This is most definitely a New Breed Tattooed Ones style of blending.

Caught up in my enthusiasm, I’ve failed to talk about strength. It starts out a bit shy of medium but after the first inch hits classic medium and stays there throughout the balance of the cigar. Wally Guse…this cigar was made for you.

Lovely readers, just go get some.

  1. Thanks. At my age, it is imperative to tell the truth; always. I’m too old to remember all the lies.
I truly did like this cigar. I have already made plans to buy a box.
