THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
On Nov. 6, I reviewed the similarly leafed Viaje Craft Series For the Love of the Leaf. It was OK but it didn’t win me over. Why not see if a different blender has more success having his way using the same approach.
Resistance is on the money. My PerfecDraw remains at parade rest.
While the cold draw is pleasant, it is not unique. There is a flotilla of girthy earthiness, spicy black pepper, dark chocolate, and bitter almond.
The initial burn gives me strength. My lips smack like an iguana on shore leave. Creamy coffee with cinnamon, peppery, honeysuckle, and bittersweet chocolate. The sweetie pie portion begins, and it is what I personally crave. I’m not talking a Rum Crook. A natural sweetness can make any blend seem better than it is. We shall see…
I smoked my share of this blend along the way to this review. It seems now that a minimum of 6 months was a prerequisite.
Transitions are easy and unforced. I like the weight of this cigar. It has a healthy heft. This will be a smooth 2 hours.
Only a tiny handful of reviews. No one can keep up with the vast unveiling of cigars these days. I don’t remember any time like this. Manufacturers are dumping expensive cigars on to the market like packs of dingoes surrounding defenseless babies.
Ronnie Howard talked to my UCLA post-production film class. A week earlier, we were dragged to the Disney Studio in Burbank to watch a preview of ‘Splash.’ There is always a retard in class. This one asked Mr. Howard if portraying the two fishing boat retards as retards was not very nice. Howard sighed heavily. He carefully explained his movie was a comedy, etc. Proving to be a double retard, the retard continued with two more retard questions. After the class, Ron had the retard killed by Ron’s retard brother, Clint.
Nicely complex, forward momentum, and with a nice balance I approve of. And I don’t approve much. I just provided some decent but uninteresting cigars to my local P.D. so they can have a quick one between calls. You should do the same.
The first half was near brilliant. And I only say those words every other review. Never dull. Never pandering. No regrets or heavy sighs from this retard.
Can’t use the word ‘smooth’ too much. Unfortunately, it is a rare occurrence. This cigar is on the road to being impressive.
Warped and Viaje. They are not dissimilar in their approach. Gellis and Farkas know how to get the most from Nicaraguan leaves. The best part is they never take advantage of their fan base. They are not in the ‘rape the consumer’ mode of doing business. This goes a long way in my book.
Strength ramps up in the second half. Not a blend for sissy boys, girlie men, or dainty gentlemen. Despite this warning, the power is a creeper…like your brother-in-law.
Flavors: chocolate, espresso, black pepper, creamy cashews, honeysuckle, lemon peel for the exact notes of tartness, a lovely earthiness, and slight inference of kiwi.
The second half is killing it. Honestly, going into this review was a 50/50 shot. I wasn’t patient and as such wasted several cigars…but now I know that this cigar shines with extended humidor time. How do you tell a cigar smoker to be patient? If you are fond of all 5 fingers on your hand, you don’t.
Beautifully complex with a simplicity that doesn’t overwhelm. Gellis scores.

Cavalier Genève BII Viso Jalapa Tempura | Cigar Reviews by the Katman
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Viso Jalapa
Binder: Nicaraguan Habano
Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 4 x 60 Figurado
Strength: Medium/Full
Price: $12.90
Factory: Fábrica Centroamericana de Tabaco S.A.
My cigars received 4 months of naked humidor time.
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
Not a lick of aroma. It’s purty, though. Oh wait, a trance is induced. The calm. And there it is…floral, dried apricot, and barnyard.
Plugged like a day-old Krispy Kreme. My PerfecDraw is hopping on one foot and then the other. ‘Send me in, coach,’ it declares. Ramming the poker tool, I hear a soft sigh from the cigar…and it’s spent.
I’m not sure the point of itty-bitty polka dot fatty cigars. I’m not sure the audience appeal. I do know that this blend comes in 8 sizes. Thereby making my criticism moot.
The cold draw bears no surprises. Sweet creaminess accented by cinnamon, pepperiness, leather, and apples.
I like how it starts: Cinnamon and ginger. A continuation of creaminess with a crossroad of black pepper and mint. Okey doke.
It is impossible to hang a small blimp like this from my lips. I enjoy the dangle. Again, lots of lengths and widths to choose from.
We were on a ski lift in St. Moritz. Due to the cold and treacherous landscape, the lift was self-contained for four people. I was alone with Frieda. We had both just discovered sex and decided it was a fun pastime. Our parents had no idea. We began necking almost immediately after the man told us not to stick our heads out of the gondola. A minute later, I was fumbling with her bra. My tiny primal brain was in overdrive. I sneaked a peek at the landing zone a mile away. We had time. Time for what? I had no idea. I was 15. We were slobbery when the people mover hit its target. Never saw the beautiful scenery. It was a rabid passion. Our friends were waiting for us on the platform. The girls blushed and the guys laughed. They pointed at my pants. Oh no. The rest of the trip I wore three sets of underwear. It was the first time in my life I learned how to be strategic. Happy endings come in all sizes.
Nice addition of buttery toasted sourdough. There is a false sense that this cigar will be mild or medium in strength. The funny thing about a short cigar is that it must cram everything a longer cigar provides in a condensed time period. Very tricky. The line of NUB cigars makes it their life purpose. But mostly just a novelty.
Great construction. Perfect burn line.
Not terribly complex but attains some nice transitions. The balance is on point. The first half seems a little bereft of tenacity. Yet it does provide some hope.
And there it is. The second half and the power that has been stalking me hits like a ballpeen hammer. Yikes.
It’s a shame that the gold leaf is only ornamental. Shouldn’t it have a definitive taste?
It all kicks in with the complexity the first half was missing. This is good now…a completely different show. Instead of just pleasant flavors, the horse is now a bucking bronco. In hindsight, I should have bought the corona or robusto.
Wow. The richness is otherworldly. Without thought or ridicule, my lips begin the uncontrolled smacking that ensures that the blend is on the right track. The strength is kick ass but the complexity rules the day. As idiots, we put up with anything if our palate recognizes a good thing.
Yeah, this baby has it going on. You gotta let your cigars humidor rest for no less than 3-5 months to reap the rewards. There are exceptions, of course, but as a general rule…
The Cavalier Genève BII Viso Jalapa is definitely worth your time.

I’ve noticed a few different Mexican wrappers in the last few reviews, but have never seen one in my local stores. Are they typically pretty good quality?
