THE WHOLE MEGILLAH (Ah, now it makes sense):
This blend comes in three sizes (10 Pack prices): 5 x 50 Robusto $6.50, 5.5 x 46 Corona Gorda $6.00, and in 6 x 52 Toro $7.00. My three favorite sizes.

There is a misnomer that Cigar Page is just another big industry website with the usual suspects in the lineup. But if you are curious, like a chimp with a suppository, you’ll find gems lurking in the dark shadows.

If you regularly read me, you know I prefer to wait a few months before popping a cigar’s cherry for a critique. With only 3 days of home detention this becomes a spoiler alert so don’t read anything before or after this sentence. Or this sentence.

The wrapper’s aromas are devastatingly floral, sweet, and full of white grape juice with further notes of cedar, milk chocolate, and fresh cream.

Construction is top notch as I stare at the cap hoping it disrobes on its own. It does not so I grab the PerfecPunch. I call it Judy when no one is listening.

The cold draw pops with cedar, milk chocolate, creamy caramel, honey, cashews, leather, and white pepper.

Very ice creamy start. If the Good Humor man didn’t have the sundae cone, the Dreamsicle was the next choice. I lost 98% of you. Cedar, white pepper, caramel, light earthiness, light leather, and summer fruit. In the early 70’s, our drummer used the ruse of delivering ice cream to kids while selling weed to their parents. He went to jail. Something about disappearing drummers that Spinal Tap nailed.

A creamy woodiness takes the lead at half an inch burned. Strength hits medium. A tangy citrusy lemon/lime note appears. The burn is very slow. One of the major things that keeps us away from budget products is a cigar that burns like a cigarette. Raymond Pages did a nice job making sure that El Titan de Bronze used expert rollers. I reviewed the original Megilla two years ago and was surprised how well the blend delivered the goods.

Upfront, this cigar is not going to get a 96 or better. First, I am reviewing it after only a few days after receiving it. Second, a 90 or above is a righteous rating for a stick that is less than $8. I understand that the blogging community says not to consider pricing when critiquing a cigar, but you are here to get suggestions, not lectures…and price matters to everyone.

At the start of the second inch, the blend balances out beautifully. This is the keynote address as to why I’m reviewing it early. I constantly seek out the perfect morning cigar. Near perfect is OK too. I don’t want to spend $15 or more on a coffee cigar 7 days a week. I want something in the mild/medium strength category…but full in body. That’s a lethal trifecta that is near impossible to find. When the Casdagli Daughters of the Wind Pony ($11.60) is available, it is my morning go-to. The Megilla Miami has the possibility of being my new sacrificial lamb. The trick is to have the patience to allow the bulk of them to rest and mature.

Lemon crème, very earthy, cedar, raw cashews, and citrus. Right on the money.

My grandsons are 5 and 8. I am continually shocked how technically and socially aware they are. Innocence lost. It will take another generation before we know if this is a good thing. I am teaching the 8-year-old how to skateboard and play bass. I run alongside him but after an hour, I’m toast. And he’s just getting started. Kids keep you young. That’s what my daughter and her husband keep telling me. Meanwhile, they look 60.

The first half nears its end. An hour to get here. It was all about luscious creaminess, sweet nothings, and savory crispness. Construction has been sharp. The resistance is first rate. My guess would be that this is a $15 stick.

I constantly think about how nice this blend will be if I can keep from smoking them all. I love my first cigar of the day when I have a clean palate. I use the term ‘smooth’ a lot. The first half of the Megilla Miami was like sliding on untouched ice. Look, this is not an expensive cigar and I’m viewing it as such. I lower my expectations. I know, against all industry codes, means, and methods. But the honest truth is I would absolutely not waste an unpolluted palate on a just OK cigar. Life is too short.

Truth is always told in the last third. I also expect the second half to sing to me. If the blend is linear without transitions, I get bored and ditch the cigar. This is my third Megilla Miami in 3 days. Consistency is key. And so far, the MM delivers.

El Titan de Bronze cranks out cigars like madmen. Cigar companies stand in a line that often makes them wait 1-4 years to get the company to manufacture their product. Little known fact…lots of cigars go unclaimed. They have rooms and rooms of unbanded cigars. They get bought up like shipments of avocados full of fentanyl from Venezuela. El Titan de Bronze’s rep is stellar.

The sweet spot is in full mode. The flavors spin like a girl from Nebraska: creamy, lemony, milk chocolate, cashews, honey, cedar, earthy, leather, and frootsie tootsie. Rich and full of depth. Amazing.

The last third is upon me. The Connecticut Shade wrapper with Mexican binder fleshes out the Dominican and Nicaraguan filler beautifully. It provides great balance.

The last third is lush with deep smoothness and full body. Not a lick of harshness. No nicotine. From stem to stern, a very nice cigar. This is my new morning go-to.

If you have a couple hours in the morning, the Toro is a great choice. The MM also comes in Robusto and Corona Gorda sizes. Time frame choices that are amenable to your schedule.

Here’s the facts, Jack. This blend does your wallet a serious solid. The smooth delivery. The flavorful body. Excellent construction. Buy a ten pack for immediate pleasure. Buy a ten pack for the long-term humidor.

  3. Didn’t realize CP had a different version of the Meg other than the original. That one was delicious, so *sigh* now “must” give this one a go. How’s this compare to Raymond’s Florida Man?

  5. I’ve passed on this cigar often, but your review is giving me pause. I’ve been looking for a decent Connie to start the day. Thanks!

  6. Really got me with the favorable comparison to the DotW pony. And I was looking for a good new Connie. It was either gonna be this or the principle Martinique in corona gorda and I think I’d rather get 10 of these for the price of 4 of those.
