BACKGROUND:
From Cigar Page:
“Raymond Pages is no stranger to making lightning strike twice. The young tobacco-wizard who once stood in AJ Fernandez’s shadow now runs his own show at Tabacalera Pages, and each new release proves the man’s got the golden touch. Enter Florida Man Cameroon — a darker, bolder follow-up draped in genuine African Cameroon, delivering that unmistakable nutty-sweet-spice over Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers.

And the cigar? That’s where the magic is. From the first spark, you’re greeted with the telltale Cameroon signature: a rush of spice that tingles the lips, rounded out by natural sweetness that sneaks in just behind it. Nutty backbone, lively complexity, and a medium body that walks the line between strength and elegance with Raymond’s trademark balance. It’s peppery and vibrant yet smoothed out by a natural sugary edge that keeps you reaching for puff after puff. The burn stays true, the ash holds strong, and the flavors weave in and out with a rhythm that keeps things interesting for the long haul.”

THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
I spent a week without a computer subject to only my iPhone for connecting to the world. I came this close to giving into my inner zombie. But now I’m whole. As you can see from the photo below, I’m doing better than your average 75-year-old grandpa.

Florida Man is a popular cigar brand that comes in three blends: Connecticut, Cameroon, and Ecuadorian Habano Sun Grown. Each one is an affordable choice, which speaks of its popularity.

Every time I find zero aromas emanating from the wrapper, I immediately think, “Oh no…my 14th brain aneurysm.” Shoving the stick up my nose like a Covid test stick, I’m able to discern mild barnyard.

The 8mm punch on my PerfecPunch works beautifully for the 46-ring gauge. The cold draw hits me square in the puss before I can deliver a monologue on behalf of Rod’s tool. Watermelon, no wait…cantaloupe. Yeah, sweet melon, chocolate, espresso, nuts, baking spices, and rich earthiness.

I don’t expect much from a $6 stick. None of us do. We sneer and side eye anything under $12. As we should. Or should we? No idea…just letting my fingers fly on the keyboard trying to get to my goal of 16,000 words.

First puffs are earth, wind, and leather. Surprisingly rich for a blend that represents only the change you have in your pocket. Unless you have kids, and then you have none. These days, it is different. The other day, my 8-year-old grandson talked me out of $28. High expectations and broke poppy and oma.

Half an inch in and there is both red and black pepper. The melon sweetness transfers from cold draw to palate in perpetuity. It is becoming one of those lip-smacking cigars. Your tongue darts without intent until your brain kicks in hoping that no one takes your photo.

The char line is as sharp as the suture lines from my penile transplant. Better.

I smoked a couple too early. They were just OK. Youse guys must stop telling me about how you smoke a cigar two days after receipt and then tell me you don’t taste the flavors I find. Let ‘em rest. Read the whole damn review and stop scrolling to the rating. I like the smoothness of what the cigar is singing to me. But you’ve already scrolled.

Strength is medium. So far, a wonderful morning cigar. I tire of my usuals: the Ecuadorian wrapper on a mild to medium blend. But that’s what the industry is pumping out as the flavor of the day. If this blend doesn’t kick my arse to the doorstep of the Nigerian prince who wants to give me his fortune, this might be a nice regular stick. My wallet could use that break.

Construction is excellent as shown by the regimental burn and slow roll.

Complexity is mild but still enjoyable. Transitions are not rapturous, but the smooth earthy chocolate is substantial and filling. A Corona Gorda is an hour-long smoke. Perfect for that busy morning where one might need to ditch your cigar because work requires you to be on time.

The blend is creamy and smooth. There is nothing about this cigar that would lean to a high score. It is a budget cigar through and through. But I’ve thrown away cigars at twice this price that did not perform to my rigid needs for a first cigar. Because Cigar Page is a sponsor, I would probably not publish the review if it sucked. Yeah, I know…I’m a hypocrite.

Rating a cigar with a 90 means different things for me. For a high-end boutique, it means it’s OK. Price matters. For a budget cigar, a 90 means it’s a damn fine purchase.

The first half was about smooth and creamy earthiness. No complaints.

The second half begins, and the complexity shows itself. It really does. I was girding the lower half of my loins that it might be going nowhere fast, but I’m wrong. A big improvement that I don’t remember from the ‘too early’ sticks. I got a smile going on.

My first sip of water at 30 minutes. A rush of melon sweetness, milk chocolate, nutty edges, a touch of cinnamon, black and red pepper, and malt. I wonder if with more humidor time, might the first half be less discreet? Maybe, but the progression of this $6 stick is unanimously and correctly postured. Strength ticks up to medium/full. I can feel it in my eyeballs. But no nicotine.

Will the cigar become harsh in the last third? Let’s see. A rough cob experience at the end ruins everything. And this is where budget sticks usually bite the dust.

As the last third is in its ritualistic end of life groan, the spiciness is stronger. But its balance remains unaffected. The red pepper influence merely lays on top of the canonized flavor profile. Sweet v. Savory is 50/50.

There is zero harshness in the last third. We have a winner. I cannot emphasize enough that the smooth creaminess of the blend is top notch. I could easily insert this cigar into my varied morning choices. Despite being a medium to full strength cigar, the lack of nicotine makes it silky.

A fiver has little impact on your wife’s all-seeing eyeballs.

You can purchase the Florida Man in all three blends from sponsor Cigar Page.

UPDATE Dec. 8, 2025: Alex Gougher at Cigar Page came through once again and added the Cameroon to Katman’s Inventory Mal-funk-tion Fiver Fest. Thereby reducing the price of each Toro and Corona Gorda by another two bucks per cigar. Check it out HERE.

  3. Quite the setup you got there, Katman! Is the mic for podcast appearances?

Smoked one of these after about 7 weeks in the humidor and it was fantastic, especially for the price. Gonna wait another couple months to finish the rest of the 5ver.
