This is an odd duck. I found this by accident at Cigar Page.
The La Palina 1896 Goldsmith was released in 2010 and then just disappeared.
The only reviews were 16 years ago.
I cannot find a single retailer that carries them.
These were $20 sticks in 2010.
Cigar Page is selling them for $2.75 each in 10-packs.
Cigar Aficionado was the only place I found definitive info. Although, I found three other 2010 reviews and they liked the blend immensely.
Here are the leaf stats:
Wrapper: Ecuadorian
Binder: Costa Rican
Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan
Size: 4.75 x 52 Robusto
Strength: Medium
I’ve never smoked one. But I bought two tenners so I can dip my wick.
Are these cigars from the original release in 2010? I’m not sure, but I believe so. For less than $3 each, what’s the harm in finding out. They either unleash the dogs of war for aging perfectly, or they are deader than a doornail. Are you a gambler?
March 31, 2026 Update: I got mine. I’m smoking one right now. Great cigar that lasted through the ages. I should have bought more.

Phil,
Thanks. I don’t know how you keep finding these deals, but please keep them coming. La Palina is one of my go to morning cigars. For the price of 1.5 Dunbartons, I ordered 10. Even if there is only a 50-50 chance these are smokeable it still seems like a good bet.

Hi Jeff,
I bought two ten packs yesterday on the dire hope I found a new morning cigar. Of course, 20 cigars only lasts 3 weeks. If they’re great and they disappear into the ether, well…shit. But if they’re dull, I have cigars to hand out to the mooch community. But with one and half decades of box aging, they will be ready to smoke on receipt, so I’ll know purty quick if I need to pounce again. I will come back to this post and report.
