BACKGROUND:
This is a Tobacconist of Greenwich exclusive.
“The La Flor Dominicana (LFD) Rare Finds Paso Fino is one of the most exclusive limited-edition releases ever crafted by Litto Gomez and the La Flor Dominicana family. Developed over two years and produced entirely with tobacco grown at the Gomez family’s famed La Canela farm, this release is a centerpiece in the Rare Finds Cigars portfolio. Only 500 boxes of this special edition exist worldwide.
10 × Paso Fino – 52 × 6
5 × Paso Largo – 55 × 7 Perfecto (each in its own coffin)
“The standout of the collection is the Paso Fino vitola, widely referred to as the “Baby Andalusian Bull” for its connection to the legendary Andalusian Bull and its distinctively elegant figurado shaping. Rolled in a compact yet expressive 52 × 6 size, it offers remarkable balance, density, and technical refinement. The elongated Paso Largo 55 × 7 Perfecto expands the profile with a long, progressive burn and a beautifully structured flavor arc.
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
This is one purty cigar. But $33 for an LFD? Holy cow.
This is a two off. I’m not flush enough to spend $165 on a fiver for a 5-minute review. I love you guys, but not that much.
It’s a beautiful cigar although the wrapper isn’t as oily as hoped. It is flat brown like a Nubian queen that has gone bra-less since the 1960’s.
This is a huge cigar. I don’t know why I am about to punish myself by reviewing something that will probably take 3 hours. How do I know this? This is my second stick.
This is going to be kick ass, possibly not in a good way, similar to using paint remover to comb my hair. Meanwhile, I task Clairol Nice’n Easy for my Shama-lama-ding-dong. It burns the katman willy like sticking one’s finger into a marmot’s business. I’ll wait for you to burn that image from your brain. I’m still waiting. I gotta keep going…send me a bill.
The wrapper oozes wonderful honeysuckle, cedar, cocoa, and barnyard. The cold draw is a little tight. But do I dare insert my PerfecDraw on an opening the size of a ferret’s bung hole? Sure, why not…it’s only a third of a C note, and I have Dr. Rod’s PerfecRepair in case I screw up. One careful insertion and the draw is as clean as the Pentagon wiping the war’s details from your information sites.
The cold draw: The honey deepens with added notes of lemon rind, espresso, dark chocolate, caramel, and cedar.
I found odd but true anatomy correlations to the cigar’s appearance:

I clean and jerk as I put torch to foot. I like to do 100 pushups in the morning before my first cigar. I wait for the paramedics to arrive, restart my heart, and I’m good to go.
An earthy bojangle start. Very nice with equal sweet and savory components of honey, dark chocolate, espresso, baking spices, and black pepper. So OK, nothing new to report but there is a lovely richness that rarely shows up this early in most cigars.
If I was blind tasting the cigar and had no idea of the price tag, I’d say: “Wonderful. Wow. Great start.” Knowing it is a $33 stick, I say: “OK. I appreciate the value when an expensive cigar wastes no time in jacking the blend into submission. But then I expect this.” Big difference. But then very few, if any, print reviewers write contemporaneously like I do. Which means you’re not getting their in-the-moment reactions.
As inch one disappears, black licorice hits my schnoz and airway. The earthiness doubles down. I use Word to write. And it constantly corrects my grammar because it doesn’t understand how I write. It thinks everything is in the past and not front and center. You feel for me? Do I have your sympathy? How about I show you a photo of my dangling testicular region? Sure, then you’d show compassion.
Construction is surprisingly excellent. A slow burn and rigid char line. We remember less of the expensive cigars that burn well but we damn well remember the ones that burned like shit.
Do you know what the strongest markers are for us feeling old? We look for movies we like and when we see when they were made, we damn near shit ourselves. What’s your favorite Hostess Snowball color? Mine is dark gray.
I’m killing time because the blend is satisfying to my obstructive palate. The cigar has put me in a kind and loving mood. Just like the feeling I get when I find a goodie underneath my pillow from the Tooth Fairy. I gotta see the dentist this week.
The word ‘earthy’ is overused. Better scribes find more diverse adjectives and nouns. In the last couple years, I’ve gotten comments accusing me of using AI. I get it. But I don’t. I’ve asked AI to write like me and it’s not very good. Like me. But the advances in the science are daily. I use AI to make the ferret photos. And that improvement is startling over the last year. While I didn’t consider the advancement of AI as a role in my retirement, I now realize that it’s being used very often when people want to appear funny…either in writing or in a video. I picked the right time to stop sniffing glue.
Speaking of which:
At the slow rate this cigar is burning, this is going to be a 3-hour tour. I need to pick up the pace. Or pick up the pieces.
The first half was killer. The blend is complex, transitional, rich, flavorful, and serious depth. Do you need the flavor points? I didn’t think so. Carry on.
Walnut shells take over in the second half. Along with tart dried apricots and dark chocolate. While not even close to a flavor bomb, it is the complexity that makes this blend shine.
I easily burned through the tear in the wrapper thanks to PerfecRepair. There is no added flavor that becomes a distraction. In fact, I forgot it was there. Dr. Rod is an evil genius. I’ve tried both the homemade glues as well as the other brand glues and Kurthy stands tall among a sea of swarming simba wannabes.
I’m going to keep this review short. There is no kickback in it for me and no points made for promoting a sponsor. In other words, I did this for fun…but I have a short attention span and I know when enough is enough. Let the other guys pontificate.
Great cigar. Is it worth $33? If you are the average smoker, no. If you have more money than Don Jr, fuck yeah.
You can buy this from The Tobacconist of Greenwich.
