Today we take a look at the C&C Loose Cannon Trigger Happy. I’ve previously reviewed the C&C Loose Cannon 1206.
From Cigar Aficionado:
“Michael Chiusano is back in the cigar business. After formally leaving Davidoff’s DomRey/Cusano subsidiary in 2010 and allowing his non-compete contract with Davidoff of Geneva to expire last February, Chiusano decided to re-enter the industry, and he’s done so with a new cigar brand called Loose Cannon.
“Produced in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Palma, Loose Cannon comes in two wrapper varieties and is distributed by C&C Cigars, the company started in 2011 by Chiusano’s brother Joe.
“We don’t want to be a big cigar company,” said Chiusano. “We don’t want to have to service 2,500 accounts like in the heyday of Cusano. C&C has about 400 accounts and Loose Cannon will be in all of them.”
“Chiusano’s original plan was to release Loose Cannon in only one blend, but after sampling a variety of tobaccos, Chiusano became equally enamored with two wrappers he found to be quite distinct—Indonesian Sumatra and Dominican Habano. Unable to decide between the two, Chiusano went ahead and created Loose Cannon in two versions—a box-pressed Sumatra called 1206 and a Habano-seed Dominican dubbed Trigger Happy.”
The cigar is gorgeous but rustic. The wrapper is a very oily dark coffee bean brown. Seams are tight. Lots of veins. A nice double cap. And slightly toothy. Nice amount of tobacco without soft spots.
I clip the cap and find aromas of sweet honey, cocoa, cedar, and leather.
Time to light up.
The draw is excellent. A wallop of red pepper slams me in the puss. And then the aromas translate to flavors.
A gooey chocolate over a sesame seed candy bar with honey. I was going to describe it as nutty but the sweet sesame is a better description.
The spiciness is doing a number on my sinuses. Wow.

It took about two weeks for the Loose Cannon 1206 to be ready to review. The Trigger Happy took a good month. I’m pretty sure that Sheryl at Stogie Boys had a Louisiana witchy woman make a doll for her to stick pins in that looked just like me.
“Where is my review????”
Just kidding. Sheryl is the sweetest lady I know that I’ve never met. Isn’t that a Groucho line?
The 1206 has a great Sumatran wrapper that really does its job. But I’m partial to Habano wrappers. More oomph and depth. That’s just me. I see Sheryl sticking a pin into my doll right now.
And yes, Sheryl has provided a discount coupon code for my readers: KATMANCC.
The char line is razor sharp.
The honey is something else. I can’t remember a flavor profile this honey heavy.
On top of the sesame is marzipan dripping with honey and coated in chocolate. This is becoming a candy bar.
I read a review to see other reviewer’s opinions and I rarely agree with anyone but this one guy hit it on the nail. That Swiss candy bar Toblerone? That is what this tastes like. Pardon my plagiarism.
But it’s more than just that. It morphed with a sesame seed candy bar.
I have to be honest. I was worried. What if the cigar, after a month, didn’t get better?
Oy vay.
Well, not only did it improve, it became my kind of flavor profile: Unique and interesting.
The strength is classic medium body.
Here are the flavors: Honey, chocolate, nougat, sesame seed, marzipan, and spice.
Yes, the spiciness ramped down quite a bit. Good thing. I was worried that my ear lobe hair would spontaneous combust. (Just kidding. Charlotte trims that for me.)
Anybody still reading this?
The profile turns toasty.
The second third begins and we have flavor bomb status.
There is real depth of character now. Nice balance. Nice long finish.
This is my second review of the day…which I never do. Fresh palate and all that. But I lit one up earlier and it was so good I decided I would do the review tomorrow.
I have sunlight for the first time in weeks and decided to take advantage and after completing some photos, I thought why the hell not?
I might be missing some minor nuances because it is not the first cigar of the day but the C&C Loose Cannon Trigger Happy is holding its own just fine thank you.
Ooh. I felt another pin.
The stick is well rounded. It found its complexity.

The chocolate moves closer to the front of the list.
Strangely, there is no creaminess. That is such a give these days that it is sort of refreshing not to be smoking the same profile over and over.
And as I write that, I taste some creaminess.
There goes another pin.
There is another side to the coin. I know you’ve had European chocolate bon bons where there is real liqueur in the middle. I’m getting a nice orange citrus liqueur inside the chocolate now. Courvoisier.

I am now at the halfway point.
The strength is a tad bit more than medium body now.
I’m sort of amazed how different the C&C Loose Cannon Trigger Happy is from the C&C Loose Cannon 1206. Not better. Just a completely different blend.
The flavor profile is rock steady.
Being a bassist, that was expected back in the day. Find the groove. Find the pocket. Now with 42 string basses, every young bassist thinks it’s his job to be the second lead guitarist. As I got older, I got better. But getting better didn’t mean playing more notes, it meant playing rock steady. And therefore, I got more gigs with bands playing out.
And the bassists with 42 string basses went on to play in their bedroom or in subways.
The price point. Are you kidding? $4.00 and change. Haha. If you like, or love, the 1206, you are definitely going to dig the Trigger Happy.
The complexity evens out. Flavors are pounding away like a drummer with two kick drums.
My only advice with this cigar is patience. You need to let it sleep for a month. Otherwise, you are wasting a good cigar.
And of course, the Wisconsin sun is going away. What a shock.
The construction has been spot on. The char line is on the money. And I’ve only had to clip the cap twice to hide the Katman drool.
With a couple inches to go, flavors soar.
Creaminess really has kicked in…putting a different slant on the flavors. Smoother.

Oh man. This is an arse kicking cigar blend. Michael Chiusano did good.
I feel pins being removed.
I was watching the movie “Aliens” before I started the review and left it on. So while I write, I am listening to lots of screams. Sounds like Charlotte when I tell her I bought some cigars.
Lip smacking good.
One last thing. I want you to remember I just did something I’ve never done. Reviewed two cigars in one day. Plus I’ve had a couple cigars prior to this review. So if it tastes this good after my palate has been assaulted a few times, then you can make your own decision about this cigar.
I want to thank Sheryl King from Stogie Boys for the samples. She did me a real solid with her kindness.
You’re going to want to try the C&C Loose Cannon Trigger Happy.
And as I finish the cigar, the screaming stops as the movie ends. How appropriate.

NOTE 12-18-2014: It’s been several months and I have to tell you that this blend ages beautifully. I am smoking one now and it has all the characteristics of a cigar at triple the price. Great blend.
