MPD Officer Peter Jerving went above and beyond and made the ultimate sacrifice. He was killed in the line of duty on February 7, 2023. He was just 37 years old.

“Officer Peter E. Jerving was killed in the line of duty as he attempted to apprehend an armed robbery suspect. Officer Jerving and his partner located the suspect and engaged in a short foot pursuit. Officer Jerving’s partner was able to catch the suspect and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the suspect retrieved a firearm and fired rounds at Officer Jerving as he approached to help his partner make the arrest. Officer Jerving was struck by the gunfire and returned fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Unfortunately, Officer Jerving was also struck and succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, despite life saving efforts from his partner and Firefighters/Paramedics on scene. Officer Jerving had just over four years on the job and is survived by his parents and siblings.”
