BACKGROUND:
Regular production.
Released March 2021.
From Lampert Cigars:
“The new line uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and, underneath, a Nicaraguan binder and filler which were grown, fermented then aged for four years by the ORTEZ family in the Jalapa and Condega valleys. Like the Edición Azul, the new EDICIÓN ROJO is crafted by the cigar factory Fábrica AGROTABACOS, Nicaragua.

“Cigars are available in three different sizes (Short Robusto, Robusto and Toro).”

THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
This cigar has been around for a couple of years, and I bet you’ve smoked one or maybe want to smoke one. I’ve reviewed some great Lampert blends: Lampert 1593 Edición Blanca Toro (93), Lampert Family Reserve 2021 (96), Lampert Family Reserve 2022 (96), and the Lampert PCA 2023 Exclusive (97).

Pungent aromas seek out my schnoz…dark chocolate, cinnamon, butterscotch, black pepper, banana crème pie, honey, barnyard, and cedar.

The cigar is light. And the draw is wide open. My PerfecDraw sits there in an Oakland funk.

The blend gets down and dirty toot suite. Lovely notes of smoked mixed nuts, oozing creaminess, black pepper, banana pudding, cedar, and milk chocolate. Alrighty then.

The burn is on point.

I’ve smoked several of these cigars and I found that the strength was more along the lines of medium/full…right from the start. Maybe I’m becoming a wuss as I see the Crypt Keeper in my line of sight.

Of the two blends from the 1675 Edición line, this is my favorite. I reviewed the AZUL a few weeks ago.

I particularly enjoy the creaminess and banana Roseannadanna elements. With the perfect amount of spiciness, in the form of black pepper, the balance is spot on.

The ash is monolithic. (The) Monkees surround it with wonder. Cue up “Also sprach Zarathustra.” I loved Deodata’s 1973 version that hit the top 40 charts. Every cover band in the universe (pun intended) had to play this song in clubs.

1” burned. 15 minutes.

The ash departs the mother ship. HAL 9000 says “Look Dave, I can see you’re really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.”

The cigar. Sail on sailor. Creaminess, banana, black pepper, espresso, cashews and filberts, caramel, cinnamon, and honey. Very nice.

“Glass House.” Guitarist Albert Cummings. I find he is becoming my go-to music when I lock in on Amazon Music. Great craggy voice and makes good decisions on tune choices.

Strength hangs at a whac-a-mole medium/full.

“I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.” Every cigar reviewer’s credo.

Complexity is a righteous brother. Depth of field is rich and warm. Transitions move slowly. The finish and mouth feel contain chocolate, creaminess, honey, and banana.

Construction is immaculate. The char line is razor wire at the border.

The first serious sweet spot hits at 2” burned. 30 minutes. “Bishop takes Knight’s Pawn.”

The elusive richness takes control. A stuttering warp speed clinking to the beat of 4.
The Sweet v. Savory is glistening in the noon day sun. The massive load of creaminess and perfect spiciness keeps the lush allotment of sweet notes in check.

The aged tobacco soars to my appreciative aging palate.

You don’t get banana this rich and out-front very often. Hardly at all for that matter. Bananas Foster (bananas, vanilla ice cream, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, and banana liqueur) drizzled with honey.

The second half is one giant sweet spot.

“That’s a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you’ve improved a great deal.”

Holy shit this is good.

If you choose to purchase these or already have some simmering in your humidor, I highly recommend that you let them sleep naked for at least 4 months. It makes a big difference. Some blends just need the sleep of the dead to come to life. When I count to three and snap my fingers, you will awaken and remember nothing. (My dating style as a young man).

Again, the AZUL was good. The Rojo is fantastic.

Strength maintains an even keel at medium/full. This cigar is a good choice for newbies that want to venture further. Loads of flavor that doesn’t require a trained palate.

Robert Cray has a very distinctive singing voice. Saw him live back in yore. Great guitarist as well.

“I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me. And I’m afraid that’s something I cannot allow to happen.”

This is a fun time cigar.

Stefan Lampert is a lawyer. He has ‘Dr.’ in front of his name. I wonder if he is an M.D. Or has a J.D. (Juris Doctor). My dad was a civil engineer who also had a law degree with his J.D. He could have been a patent attorney but then we would have had to live in D.C. He chose structural steel, and the other coast, instead. I don’t think I’d have had a chance in hell to play music the way that opportunities arose in L.A. Good choice, Dad.

Strength is full tilt.

“Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going.”
If I had a dime for every time I said that during the 60’s…

This is a nubber.

Flavors are never rescinded. They explode all over my face. “Now you can squeeze my lemon ’til the juice run down my leg.”

Great cigar.

“Dai-sy, dai-sy, give me your answer true. I’m half cra-zy, o-ver the love of you. It won’t be a sty-lish mar-riage, I can’t a-fford a car-riage—.”
