Room 101 Johnny Tobacconaut 2023 | Cigar Reviews by the Katman

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Mexican
Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 6 x 52 Toro
Strength: Mild/Medium
Price: $10.00

My cigars have had 3-1/2 months of naked humidor time.

THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
The wrapper smells good. Caramel, milk chocolate, creamy vanilla, and cotton candy.
No issues with the draw. My PerfecDraw has run off to join the circus.

Nice start. Notes of citrus, creaminess, white pepper, sweet florals, cinnamon, unsalted butter, and milk chocolate.

Strength is just a tick over mild on the Doomsday Clock. 1 minute 30 seconds to go.

A peppery spiciness is solid at just the right level. The Goldilocks Syndrome.

Using a Mexican tobacco binder was smart. Gives the blend a nice kick it might not otherwise have if Nic guts reigned supreme. Would have changed cigar to brash instead of mellow yellow. I saw a photo of Donovan. He looks like an old woman. Some old Hippies just never know when it is time to get a haircut.

The blend makes a crab walk and hovers with a creamy lemongrass flavor that seemed to be in the cards for an Ecuadorian Connie wrapper.

I rarely enjoy mild strength cigars…but so far, this cigar pleases me.

Generally, Matt Booth blends don’t grab me by the solar plexus. His offerings simply fall into the non-descript catalog brand category. Once in a great while he publishes a nice cigar.

Lemon crème. Chocolate malt. Spicy foreskin. Cinnamon crumble.

The balance is quite good. Strength hits medium at 1-1/2” burned. Mikey likes.

Easy going but literate in its approach. Complexity begins. A lovely richness is at hand. Nothing linear going on. Who’da thunk.

I have something embarrassing to admit. I saw the 1970 film “Love Story” in its opening weekend at the UCLA Bruin Theater in Westwood on Christmas day. I pretended to like the movie because my girlfriend did. Sad day for humanity. 25 years later, I sat across from Ali MacGraw on a flight from Albuquerque to Phoenix. Beautiful woman.

The flow is interrupted. I can’t remove the secondary cigar band. How annoying. But then I am annoying. Ask anyone.

Construction is excellent. A char line that causes no trouble.

I just took a gander at the press release. This cigar was blended with AJ Fernandez. Now I know why I like it. AJ ran roughshod over the instincts of Booth and saved his bacon. Everything makes sense now.

Still, for a $10 stick, I am duly impressed. Greed was held in abeyance. Easily could have been a $15 stick or more.

Sometimes when I am listening to blues, I say to no one in particular, I’ve played that bass line 650 times.

Halfway point. The sophistication really kicks in. Super rich. Wide spectrum of flavor notes overlaps each other.

With hesitation, the main cigar band is removed. No issues. My testicles stand at parade rest.

Milk chocolate sidles up to the existential creaminess. Lemon curd and white pepper spiciness are in sync. Caramel rests like Jabba. Cinnamon is splendid.

Full tilt medium strength. The mild start was a diversion. The troops have landed.

The second half is delicious. The sweet spot. I drift away to Dobie Gillis land. Scratch that. Dobie Gray.

I can’t remember liking a Room 101 cigar this much.
Booth must have used a whip and a chair on AJ.

I can’t quantify why some cigars are so damn relaxing. This one makes me so. I am flooded with memories of having sex three times a week.

Patrick Lagreid. Halfwheel. An excellent writer.

I find myself craving music. Wonder why.

2” to go. Fucking superb.

Transitions. Subtleties. Nuances. Richness. Complexity. Finish. Spot on.
