THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
Reviews of the Los Statos…Some good and some taking down Mothra with a bazooka.

I cradle the cigar in my mouth while gently sucking as if I have clitoral raspberry jelly just out of reach. My PerfecDraw blinks in Morse Code hoping a passing ship will notice. Sweat begins to pour off both our foreheads. I ram the PD into the Los Statos. A sudden jerk appears. It is my cousin Lowell. I let him off with a warning because he is gay. An airhole becomes heir apparent. The pectoral muscles on my butt plug relax and the cigar is now ready for criticism. Wow.

The cigar begins with a delicious chocolate candy bar impression. Rich with desire follows. Nougat, malt, creaminess, salted almonds, caramel, and black pepper. Very nice. My previous two sticks showed little promise. Waiting a mere four months is the answer to the question not asked…why…because I forgot.

I read a scathing review of the Los Statos Maduro saying it was devoid of anything resembling a good cigar. And did the review inform its readers how much naked humidor time it was given? Nope. So, how do we compare notes…we cannot.

Construction is solid and the burn is perfectomundo.

Licorice enters with a fellowship of black coffee on its heels.

Sometimes the difference between a great review and a scornful review is minutiae. A mere difference in palate can change everything…unless the blend is so straight ahead in its approach that there just isn’t a chance to taste differences in flavor. Sometimes this is wonderful. Other times, not so much. Am I confusing or am I confusing.

If I had the nerve to ask for a mental health day even once in my career, I’d have been first laughed at, and then handed over to the field superintendents for their sexual needs.

We’ve all gone through the ACID phase. Mine lasted between 2001-2003. You had to hunt them down as they were difficult to locate. I found what I liked and discarded the rest. There was lash back. Couldn’t stand anything resembling sweet in my cigars for a few years after that. Beware of Sweetie Pies.

Strength is medium.

Listening to classic soul. Hard work for a bassist but oh so rewarding playing live. Carried away by the groove. Drummers know what I mean.

All the things I like about this cigar were panned by the review I mentioned. More importantly, it reported a serious lack of complexity. Noted. But I taste a lovely and lithe level of richness and complex flavors. It is not a stunning occurrence but for $10 ($8.50-$9.00 with katman promo code) it’s OK. I like it and I don’t like anything by Booth…or should I say Rocky Patel-In Training.

So far, an excellent morning cigar with good coffee. Charlotte and I love the Costa Rican blend. A mild coffee that is suited well for being concocted with extra scoops. No bitterness and restaurant quality. Notice how fucking expensive coffee is now?

Aforementioned flavors are stronger and certainly more impactful as the first third sickens and so dies.

The second half begins (75 minutes) and I’m more than hopeful as the blend is easy going and tasty. A nice blend worthy of more than a rating of 75…just sayin’. The chocolate creaminess has my attention. A very smooth encounter.

I think that most of my readers will enjoy this cigar. Its lack of cutting edges makes it a solid go-to. Creamy with notes of vanilla, marzipan, café au lait, luscious caramel, and homemade whipped cream. Nothing revolutionary is happening here. Standard flavors but done well in the blending process. Booth really lucked out.

The rich qualities outweigh the available complexity. If this was a $15+ stick, I’d have issues. This cigar will do well if you hide it in your humidor for 9 months.

My last 8 reviews were cigars $14-$26. I can’t remember…have I mentioned that cigar manufacturers are coming for your life savings…$70-$130 for a fiver. Fucking nuts.

In 2019, I had a gig as heavily armed security for a local synagogue. I met a lot of folks that were older because young people didn’t seem interested. Not a single man, my 2024 age, seemed to be lucid. Yikes. Tick tock.

If you like a nice change of pace in your lineup, a creamy sweet and nutty blend is here in the Los Statos. I love trashing Booth but I cannot with this cigar. It’s not bad. Not great, but great cigars are hard to come by these days in the $8.50-$9.00 price range.

Strength morphs into medium/full. My vision blurs. My testes scrunch up.

Cinnamon oatmeal, milk chocolate, malt, creamy vanilla pudding, Almond Roca, rich coffee with half and half, caramel, black pepper, blackberries, and black licorice.
The first half was a precursor. The second half brings it home. The mix of Connie, Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Honduran leaves worked.

I liked this cigar. I liked how the cigar started at low medium in strength and mutated in an orderly progression into full strength. Not a barnburner, but a solid offering. If I can only find my plastic cards used for overextending my financial reach…I’d like to try the Original which uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over the same leaves as the Maduro.

I nub it carrying the experience into 2-1/2 hours.

Humidor time is essential. Don’t fuck up.

Two of my sponsors carry the Los Statos in Maduro and Original: Small Batch Cigar (10% off with promo code ‘katman’) and Luxury Cigar Club (15% off with promo code ‘katman’).
